Martial Art Classes

Judo

Our Judo classes are open to all individuals, from beginners to more experienced practitioners of all ages and levels of physical fitness. Beginners can expect to be guided through the various techniques and concepts in a clear and safe manner.

Students will firstly learn how to fall safely and protect themselves when being thrown. The various throwing techniques will be clearly taught by breaking them down into the three concepts common to every throw; off-balancing the opponent (Kuzushi), “fitting in” or positioning your body to perform the technique (Tsukuri), and finally executing the throw (Kake).

Each class will typically begin with a thorough warm up focused on injury prevention and body conditioning, followed by safe falling practice (Ukemi). Technical explanation of a specific move will be delivered and students will then practice the given technique in partnered repetition (Uchikomi). Finally, students will engage in free-sparring (Randori), attempting to perform their learned throws on one another in a safe and encouraging environment.

Our training philosophy is based on the idea of mutual benefit, meaning all students help each other strive to improve and reach their goals.
