Daisuke ‘Ronin’ Nakamura

3rd Degree Black Belt

Head Instructor of PATO Studio

Born in 1979 in Isumi District, Chiba Prefecture (later merged into Isumi City)

He started judo in junior high school, and in high school, he placed third in the 71kg class at the prefectural tournament.

After entering the workforce, he wanted to "get moving," so he joined the nearby Grabaka Gym and studied under Tsuyoshi Yamazaki.

He won the All Japan Championship featherweight class as a purple belt in 2007, and as a brown belt in 2008 and 2009.

As a black belt, he won the JBJJF All Japan Championship featherweight class three times in a row in 2010, 2011, and 2012 (and also won the open weight class two years in a row in 2011 and 2012), and won the IBJJF World Masters (world tournament)

in 2018. In international tournaments, he has competed against world champions Mario Reis, Rafael Mendes, and Hubens Cobrinha. At "Polaris 2" held in Wales in 2015, he faced off against jiu-jitsu legend Vitor "Xiaolin" Ribeiro in a fierce battle. He began teaching in 2009, and while serving as the head instructor of a jiu-jitsu gym, he also holds technique seminars throughout Japan and overseas. In March 2016, he went independent and founded PATO STUDIO with his friend Kohei Nishibayashi. On July 24, 2016, he was inducted into the JBJJF (Japan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) Hall of Fame. In August 2018, he won the World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship, a world championship limited to those 30 years of age and older, beating a tournament of 43 other competitors and achieving his long-cherished dream of becoming the world's best.

*Only those who have won the All Japan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship four or more times (open weight classes are counted separately) are allowed to enter the Hall of Fame. At the time of the announcement, there were only four people in the Hall of Fame (Daisuke Nakamura, Daisuke Shiraki, Ichiro Kaneko, and Koji Shibamoto).

■ A word from Daisuke Nakamura

"Even now, after having revolved around jiu-jitsu for about 10 years, I still find jiu-jitsu to be as fun as ever. I decided to set up the gym because I want everyone to learn more about this fascinating sport. I want people to feel the excitement before going to practice and the exhilaration after practice in their daily lives."
